It isn't really representative of the franchise as a whole, but you can play it from start to finish and have a definitive experience. But if you insist on playing a more modern looking game like these 2 that's totally fine as well!įinal Fantasy 15 will give you more closure in its story if that is what you are looking for. Personally I feel like FF9 or FF10 are the two best entry points. Does that mean it is the best entry point to the franchise? No, I don't believe it is. The general consensus by most people (and definitely this sub) is that FF7 Remake is a superior game to FFXV. Nice choice to start, that's where I lead my friends when they ask me where to start with jrpgs. I read elsewhere that your first jrpg was Persona 5. There’s some meta things and callbacks to the OG going on that a new player won’t understand, but if you’re hungry for more you can always play the OG after. While playing the original first will make you understand more, I’d say starting with FFVIIR rather than the OG is better if you’re unfamiliar with the plot (or only know of that one spoiled spoiler) because the Remake does a better job at the characterizations, which makes every plot twist just hit that much harder. Thus, if you prefer story and/or combat over freedom and exploration, this is your game. It’s not perfect, but nails the characterizations, inherits an amazing plot from the original and has one of the best combat systems (if not the best) of any FF game up until now. This is the game you want when you just want to explore and relax, with occasional serious plot things and a handful of really difficult battles.įFVIIR is far more linear, with free movement between areas happening I think at only one or two points in the game. Make sure to buy the Royal Edition: it makes the story better and adds some extra features. It’s often described as a road trip, and certainly feels that way. The world is fairly empty and there’s a lot of fetch/hunt quests, but this is compensated with fun mini-games, a handful of awesome side-quests and features like fishing and photography. The story is by consensus not as good as FFVIIR’s and the combat is also inferior, but you can spend hours upon hours exploring everything. FFXV and FFVIIR are very different games, so it just depends on what you prefer in a game.įFXV is very laid-back and open world.
